Arven buys all silver (830/925S) and gold (375/585/750) by weight and guarantees competitive prices and insured shipping for your peace of mind. This means that you can also sell silver and gold items that are completely or partially damaged or tarnished to us. This service is only available if you are resident in Norway. The minimum submission/delivery of gold is 5 grams, silver is 200 grams.
When you hand over your gold/silver in store or send it in, you will be given the choice of receiving the purchase price directly to your account, or receiving a voucher that can be used in Arven's store or online store. When paying with a voucher, you will receive a 20% higher amount.
For those of you who live in Bergen
How to proceed
If you live in Bergen, you are most welcome to visit our store at Sandbrogaten 11, just behind Bryggen in Bergen city center. There is free parking for our customers at the back of the building. In our store, we will help you receive gold/silver and register what you want to sell in our systems. Please note that Arven gives a price per gram of gold/silver. If you wish to keep stones, pearls or similar, this must be stated when submitting or removed in advance. If you wish a jeweler to remove them, it costs 250kr (up to 10 stones/pearls). Additional stones/pearls cost 30kr per piece.
Our store opening hours are Monday - Friday 10am-5pm and Saturdays 10am-3pm.
For those of you who live elsewhere in Norway
this is how you proceed
If you live elsewhere in the country, you must do the following:
1. Order a starter package from Arven here.
Within a few days you will receive a shipment with an address label, our terms and conditions and further information about the transaction. In the attached form, you choose whether you want the money paid to your bank account or if you want a credit note that you can use in our store or online store. If you want to keep stones, pearls or similar, this must be stated when submitting or removed in advance. If you want a jeweler to remove them, it costs 250 NOK + postage.
2. Wrap the gold or silver you want to sell securely before sending it. We recommend, for example, wrapping paper or bubble wrap that prevents the metal from scratching each other. Fill out the agreement and enclose it in the shipment. Feel free to pack what you want to send in a box and tape it well. Stick on the address label and deliver to the nearest PostNord store. Postage is paid, the shipment can be tracked and the contents are insured for up to NOK 100,000.
3. When we receive your package, we will do a valuation of the item, which takes up to 10 business days. We will then send you a settlement via email. You can see our updated prices for gold and silver here.
4. You will either receive the amount paid to your chosen bank account or to a credit card that can be used in our store or online store.

Price ranges for silver
Why are there different price ranges for silver?
Silver is measured in parts per thousand or thousandths. Pure silver is very soft and is no longer used to make new items, but can be found in silver bars and old coins. There are mainly two types of silver qualities on the Norwegian market today, 830S and 925S. This means that 83.0% and 92.5% of the items are pure silver, respectively, the rest are other alloys that have been added to make the silver harder. Items marked with 925S (typically jewelry) therefore contain more pure silver than items marked with 830S (typically cutlery, candlesticks, shawls, etc.).

At Arven, we accept dental gold for purchase, as long as the gold is removed from the tooth before delivery. This ensures a simple and efficient process for both parties.
Payment
How long will it take before I receive payment?
As soon as we receive your shipment, we will start the process by checking and valuing your items. This can take some time, especially if there is a high volume of orders. More complicated items such as stones that need to be removed from jewelry, candlesticks/vases that need to be emptied of filler before weighing also take a little longer. We work as quickly as we can and promise to deliver a settlement via email and payment/credit note within 10 business days.
How to send the package?
Is it safe to send gold and silver by mail?
Yes, it is completely safe if you use the address label we send you. The contents of the package are insured for up to NOK 100,000.
Make sure the items are securely and well wrapped so that the metal does not move inside the package.

How is the weight of my gold and silver calculated?
The weight of your gold and silver that you read on your kitchen scale at home may differ from the weight we calculate at Arven.
Why is that?
Some items have attached stones and pearls. We at Arven only pay for gold and silver, not for pearls and stones, for example. If you want to keep pearls or stones, you remove them before you deliver or send in the items. Some silver items have filler in the shaft and base, for example knives and candlesticks. We at Arven will deduct the weight of stones, pearls and filler. We then weigh the items accurately on approved scales when they arrive to us, so you can be sure that this is correct.
