Arven buys all silver (830/925S) and gold (375/585/750) by weight and guarantees competitive prices and insured shipping for your peace of mind. This means that you can also sell silver and gold items that are completely or partially damaged or tarnished to us. This service is only available if you live in Norway. When handing over in store or sending in your gold/silver, you will be given a choice of receiving the purchase amount directly paid to your account, or receiving a voucher that can be used in Arven's store or online store.

If payment is made on a bonus slip, you will be offered a slightly higher amount.

For you that live in Bergen

This is how you proceed

If you live in Bergen, you are most welcome to visit our shop at Sandbrogaten 11, just behind Bryggen in the center of Bergen. There is free parking for our customers at the back of the building. In our shop, we will help you accept gold/silver and register what you want to sell in our systems.

Our opening hours for the store are Monday - Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM.

For you that live a different place in Norway.

This is how you proceed

If you live elsewhere in the country, you must complete the following:

1. Order a starter pack from Arven here.

Within a few days you will receive a shipment with an address label, our terms and conditions and further information about the trade. In the attached form, you choose whether you want the money paid out to your bank account or whether you want a voucher that you can use in our store or online store.

2. Wrap the gold or silver you want to sell properly before sending it. We recommend, for example, adhesive paper or bubble wrap that prevents the metal from scratching against each other. Fill in the agreement and attach it to the shipment. Feel free to pack what you want to send in a box and tape well. Stick on the address label and deliver to the nearest Post in store. Postage is paid, the shipment can be tracked and the contents are insured for up to NOK. NOK 100,000.

3. When we receive the package from you, we will carry out a valuation of the item, which takes up to 10 working days. We will then send you a settlement by e-mail. You can see our updated prices for gold and silver here.

4. You will either be paid the amount to your chosen bank account or to a voucher that can be used in our store or online store.

Price ranges for silver

Why are there different price ranges for silver?

Silver is measured in parts per thousand or thousandths. Pure silver is very soft and is no longer used to make new goods, but can be found in silver bars and old coins. There are mainly two types of silver qualities on the Norwegian market today, 830S and 925S. This means that respectively 83.0% and 92.5% of the objects are pure silver, the rest are other alloys that have been added to make the silver harder. Objects marked with 925S (typically jewellery) therefore contain more pure silver than objects marked with 830S (typically cutlery, candlesticks, the ring etc.).

Payment

How long will it take before I receive payment?

As soon as we have received your shipment, we will start the process by checking and valuing your items. This can take some time, especially if there is a lot of traffic. More complicated objects such as stones that must be removed from jewellery, candlesticks/vases that must be emptied of filler before weighing also take a little longer. We work as quickly as we can and promise to deliver a settlement by email and payment/gift card within 10 working days.

How to send the package?

Is it safe to send gold and silver by post?

Yes, it is completely safe if you use the address label we send you. The contents of the package are then insured for up to NOK. NOK 100,000.

Make sure the items are securely and well wrapped so that the metal does not move inside the package.

How can I know if Arven Vintage is real gold or silver?

Arven has the country's longest experience in the production of silver cutlery and a unique expertise in both gold and silverware. We have skilled professionals who inspect, test and process each individual item with expert hands. Arven Vintage encloses a certificate of quality that guarantees the gold or silver quality you buy.

How is the weight of my gold and silver calculated?

The weight of your gold and silver that you read on your kitchen scale at home may differ from the weight we calculate at Arven. Why is this so? Some items have attached stones and pearls. We at Arven only pay for gold and silver, i.e. not for pearls and stones, for example. If you want to keep pearls or stones, you take them out before you deliver or send in the items. Some silverware has filler in the shafts and sockets, for example knives and candlesticks. We at Arven will deduct the weight of stones, pearls and filler. We then weigh the items exactly on approved scales when they arrive, so you can be sure that this will be correct.
