Den originale Kvartpenningen i sølv ble funnet under en arkeologisk utgravning under Bryggen i Bergen. Kvartpenningen dateres tilbake til Kong Håkon V's tid på den norske tronen (1299 - 1319). Kvartpenningen i sølv ble brukt som betalingsmiddel for mindre beløp under den Hanseatiske tiden.
