Whether you have a gold heirloom, a new favorite piece of silver jewelry, or a specially designed piece of jewelry from our own workshop, good jewelry care is the key to a long life.
Cleaning and maintenance at home
Most jewelry can be cleaned gently at home with lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft toothbrush. This is especially true for silver jewelry, which tends to tarnish or oxidize over time. Avoid harsh cleaning agents – and remember to dry the jewelry well with a soft cloth afterward.
Simple jewelry cleaning kits are available at most jewelry stores. These work very well, but make sure you choose the right solution for your piece of jewelry and follow the instructions carefully.
Gold, silver and gemstones have different needs, so be careful with jewelry that contains pearls, enamel or organic materials – these should preferably be cleaned professionally.
Storage – small steps, big difference
Store your jewelry in a dry and dark place, preferably in a jewelry box with separate compartments so that the jewelry does not rub against each other.
Silver will oxidize if exposed to moisture. A good tip is to use airtight bags if you know the jewelry will be left out for a while.
Take off your jewelry when you…
While it may be tempting to leave your favorite jewelry on all the time, it's a good idea to take it off when you exercise, shower, bathe, or do housework. Soaps, sweat, and chemicals can wear down the metal.
By being a little conscious in your everyday life, you can significantly extend the life of your jewelry.
