Repair and renovation of traditional Norwegian silver
Bunadssølv is one of the most beautiful things we have; it is part of our cultural heritage, a heritage that deserves to be preserved through generations. Bunadssølv, with its beautiful details and symbolic meanings, tells a story about who we are and where we come from.
To preserve the Bunad silver as best as possible, it is therefore important to take good care of the silver, and care for it when necessary, so that the Bunad silver can live on for many generations. At Arven, you can have Bunad silver repaired and refurbished by our skilled professionals.

Maintenance
We at Arven have extensive experience in repairing and refurbishing traditional Norwegian silver. Our skilled professionals can repair most things, and not least make your traditional Norwegian silver sparkling clean again.
On big occasions like May 17, baptisms and confirmations, we adorn ourselves with some of the finest things we own, the traditional Norwegian national costume and traditional silver. Silver requires different treatment, so make sure to polish your silver properly to avoid damaging it.
If it has been a long time since you have had your Bunad silver professionally cleaned, we would recommend that you consider this. Some Bunad silver needs a more extensive polishing or deeper cleaning. At our workshop in Bergen, we have our own machines for cleaning, polishing and drums that are especially suitable for treating Bunad silver. After a professional cleaning, your Bunad silver will be shiny and ready to use.

Different surfaces on the silver
Old gilded and oxidized silver
If you have old gilded or oxidized silver, you are probably one of the "lucky" ones, as silver with this type of surface is not supposed to be completely shiny, and therefore does not need to be polished as often. Bunad silver can often be cleaned at home with a soapy mixture of water, zalo and ammonia. See recipe below. If you find that some of the parts have become dull, you can go over them with a polishing cloth to make them shiny again.
Soap plant recipe:
1 liter of lukewarm water
1 tsp salt
A few drops of zalo
This recipe can be used to clean gold-plated, antique gold-plated, oxidized and white silver.
Other types of surfaces
Gold-plated and white silver
The gold-plated Bunad silver is covered with a thin layer of gold. When polishing gold-plated silver, you must be careful not to rub away the layer of gold. If you are unlucky, or the layer of gold has disappeared over time, you can always have both Bunad silver and other jewelry gold-plated at our workshop.
White and bright silver that has not been polished for a while may experience yellowing and dulling. To polish white and bright silver, you can use the recipe for the soap mixture mentioned above. You can also use silver polish that we sell in our online store and store. When using silver polish, it is important to follow the instructions for use, as instructions for use may vary by brand and type of silver polish.
