WHY DOES JEWELRY GET DIRTY?
Happy to advise you
We spoke to our skilled goldsmith Per Danielsen (60), who has worked in the trade for 45 years and has seen most of the dirty, worn and damaged jewellery. He is happy to give you advice on what can be done to avoid this: “Your jewellery can last almost forever if you take good care of it. With regular cleaning and checking for any wear and tear, your jewellery will give you just as much as when it was brand new, year after year.”
Do it yourself
But if your jewelry has already become dirty, what can you do yourself and what do you need professional help for? Per explains: “Perfume, skin creams and soap form a coating on your jewelry. It can also dull stones and damage pearls. That’s why you should take your jewelry off when you wash your hands, shower or do the dishes. But I know that’s not always easy to remember in a busy everyday life.” The goldsmith winks slyly and smiles. He knows his customers well after many years in the profession.
He continues: "Feel free to use a soft toothbrush and water when cleaning your jewelry yourself. This way you won't damage the metal, stones or pearls. If you can't get them clean this way, you can try some jewelry cleaner. We'll be happy to help you find the right type for your jewelry. Here, you need to pay close attention to whether your jewelry has pearls or stones."
Magic
But what if your jewelry still doesn't look good after you've tried these tips yourself? Then we simply recommend a trip to Per or one of our other skilled jewelers for a real cleaning in our "magical" ultrasonic bath. After a light polishing afterwards and a round of rhodium plating if it's white gold, your jewelry will shine like it's brand new.
